CÜMBÜÅž

Welcome,

CümbüÅŸ (Revel); is a Turkish invention made by Zeynel Abidin in the first half of the 20th century.

It is a stringed instrument formed with a wooden fretless neck attached to an aluminum round body, the neck of which can be separated from the body, and the strings can be changed into other musical instruments such as mandolin, guitar, tambour. It has 12 strings (i.e. six pairs of strings). Its general structure is similar to the Banjo and its playing is similar to the Oud. The types in different layouts are:

When Zeynel Abidin appeared in front of Atatürk in 1930 with the musical instrument he produced , Atatürk, who said that the instrument spread joy, gave him an identity by naming it CümbüÅŸ. Meanwhile, the inventor of the saz gave one of the two cümbüÅŸ he produced to Atatürk and the other to Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi. Following this development, Zeynel Abidin received a patent for his fretless instrument like the Oud with 12 strings instead of 11. In the newspapers of February 1931, it was the subject of the news with the headline "The instrument invented by the Turkish artist: CümbüÅŸ". In a concert in 2006, a Zeynel Abidin branded cümbüÅŸ appeared, Pink Floyd's world-famous guitarist and solist David Gilmour was on the stage with cümbüÅŸ on his hand.
